This week our parent company, ZeniMax Media, announced that we’ve acquired id Software – makers of blockbuster releases like DOOM and QUAKE. On top of that, we were very busy at E3 2009, where we let folks get a sneak peak of our newest title, Brink, being developed by Splash Damage. In addition to Brink, we showed WET, Rogue Warrior, and the latest piece of Fallout 3 DLC, Point Lookout, which is now available on Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows LIVE. Finally, we have exciting news that Morrowind, Oblivion, and Call of Cthulhu are now available on Steam. For more news, check out the stories below; and for the latest developments, visit our blog, Bethesda Blog. |

Game Stooge
Best Game of Show – Winner
"Overall, the game is stunning in its pre-alpha state - one wonders what Splash Damage will have created when Brink is polished. This game is a surefire winner, and will seriously challenge Team Fortress 2 for the class-based combat crown."

"The innovation that really hit us where we live was the mission design of Brink, the shooter from Splash Damage that ever so subtly is blurring the lines between multiplayer and single player gameplay."

"If you thought 2K’s Borderlands was looking good, Brink is poised to take a similar concept one step further with the addition of Bethesda’s signature character customization and deep, story-based gameplay."

Surprise of the Show – Winner
"The title, considering it’s still over a year off, looks pretty damn beautiful already and seeing the impressive detail and customization in the character creation aspect was great to see. However, Bethesda didn’t stop there as they showed off the impressive SMART button (a simple Mirror’s Edge style mechanic), the ability to choose what you did to advance your side’s cause and the interesting tactic of trying to blur the distinction between single player, co-op and multiplayer, which was enough to leave us feeling pretty damn happy with BRINK’s first showing at this year’s E3."

Eurogamer
"…Brink is a striking game and a firm step for both Splash Damage and Bethesda out of their respective comfort-zones. As online gaming continues its cautious creep on consoles from menu option to underlying philosophy, it could well be hybrids like Brink that lead the way." |
 |
Kotaku
"Certainly one of the fresher titles I’ve seen at the show so far." |
 |
Videogamer.com
"In many ways Brink is the natural evolution of Splash Damage’s online PC-focused Enemy Territory series, but as far as console shooters go it’s practically revolutionary. 360 and PS3 owners schooled on the online offerings of CoD4 and Killzone 2 should be very, very excited. And, to be honest, so should everyone else." |
 |
Destructoid
"Brink already looks amazing in its current form, so we can only assume it may be even more impressive later." |
 |
Game Informer
"We didn’t get our hands on the game, so it’s impossible to say how well it plays, but Brink looks like a lot of fun." |
 |
Gamespot
"After our first demo, we think Brink appears to have fulfilled Splash Damage’s vision of creating a first-person shooter with a bit of a twist, and we look forward to more impressions and hands-on time with the game." |
 |
1Up
"Brink looks like the next logical evolution of Splash Damage’s Quake Wars, with a bit of Mirror’s Edge thrown in. While the version we saw was pre-alpha, if the final version stays the course with its aesthetic and gameplay elements, Brink looks to be an innovative and exciting addition to the multiplayer combat-game genre." |

Top 15 Original IPs to Debut at the Show – Selection
"The demo I tried had me jumping, sliding, and running up walls in slow-motion, gunning down bad guys and cutting them down with my Hattori Hanzo like they were made of butter. In one stage, you literally run across the rooftops of cars in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge, taking out armed assailants mid air. If this was any indication of what the final product will be, I can’t wait to see what else Bethesda has in store for us with Wet."
|
 |
Entertainment Weekly
"You won’t find a game based on Tarantino’s latest, Inglourious Basterds, but fans of the genre-defining director should definitely check out WET." |

Joystiq
"It has all of the makings of a great title, but some minor design issues keep us from being more excited about it. Hopefully, the final product will feature more areas where Rubi isn’t constricted and can move freely, because that is when the game truly shines." |
 |
IGN
"Wet is a bit like a cross between Tony Hawk and a shooter." |
 |
G4TV
"Ultimately, if our brief stint on this game is any indication, Wet looks like it’s shaping up to be like a cross between Max Payne and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand: a fun and frantic, if ultimately mindless shooter." |
 |
The Next Level
"There’s tremendous potential here…" |
 |
Atomic Gamer
"From the demo I got to play, WET features some fantastic setpieces that showcase its acrobatic gameplay, classic kung fu and grindhouse flick sensibilities…" |
 |
Destructoid
"The Grindhouse art style looks pretty good, but the gameplay was my favorite part of the whole demo. Hopefully the total package will live up to what was shown." |

Best Multiplatform Title – Winner

"Overall the switch in developers and in the scope of the game itself seem to work well and having Mickey Rourke come in to do voice over work for this very adult-sounding title is a perfect match." |

Gaming Angels
"It’ll definitely be worth checking out the finished product when it releases this fall if you’re a fan of FPS games." |

"With Mickey Rourke providing Dick’s voice in Rogue Warrior, Dick seems just as gruff and rebellious as the real life man himself." |
